Selena Gomez is an inspiring pop artist in todays music. In 2008 her as well as her band, Selena Gomez and The Scene created albums such as; Kiss and Tell, A Year Without Rain and When the Sun Goes Down were the top albums in the early 2000’s ranked on the top ten “US Billboard 200.” When Selena separated from her band and became a solo artist in 2013 she was granted six entries on “US Billboard Hot 100.” In total she had sold 7 million albums and 22 million singles. Selena Gomez is a very well known artist as well as actress, acting in Barney, and Wizards of Waverly Place leading her to have the most Instagram followers world wide. She is an inspiring person due to her charitable work, being an ambassador for UNICEF at the young age of 17. Selena Gomez as an artist had faced a major struggle in her life being diagnosed with Lupus and having to go through chemotherapy. Gomez continued to have a positive outlook on life while suffering with this medical condition. The song “Hands to Myself” in Selena’s top album “Revival” released in 2016 is her top song currently. It is inspired by the well known artist Prince and was intentionally created to show her high vocals. In the song Selena uses “breathy vocals” with a whisper to show a sexual desire. I chose Selena Gomez because she relates to our generation in such a way that she connects with her fans through social media as well as her songs. When she performs her songs she sings in a way that is personal, and someone our generation can look up to.
One of her recent hits, "Bad Liar," samples "Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads.
ReplyDeleteSelena's music is such a good example of an artist's career maturing and her global popularity is unparalleled. I did not know about her health struggles, and I agree that adds to her inspiration for our generation.
ReplyDeleteI had never realized how popular Selena Gomez actually is. With your facts on the numbers of records she sold, and how praised she is among soical media and television, I now understand why our generation may look up to Gomez. I also did not know that she had a medical condition that could affect her music but instead, she persisted and carried on to make catchy tunes while incorporated some of her struggles into her songs to really connect with her audiences.
