There are many acts that I think helps to represent today’s generation, however the artist Khalid seems to fit into much of the criteria presented and he definitely helps to represent our generation. Khalid was born February 11, 1998 in Fort Stewart Georgia, although he moved around much during his childhood due to his mother’s job in the military.
Khalid’s rise to fame is truly one of our generation as first starting his career on SoundCloud. He quickly rose to fame and began collaborating with numerous artists. His latest album “American Teen” has also received praise including nominations for Best Urban Contemporary Album, best R&B Song, and certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. As well as these accomplishments, Khalid also won a VMA Award for Best New Artist in 2017.
Starting in SoundClouD to becoming one of the biggest artists in today’s music, Khalid helps to show that anyone can make it “big” in the music industry. His story is truly inspirational and I am sure many aspiring artists look up to him and all of his accomplishments.
I think many of his songs are a good representation of our generation, however I included the song “American Teen”. In the song, Khalid sings about life as an American teen, while also talking about the “American dream”, an idea that has been present in the United States history for many generations.

My favorite Khalid song is one he did with Billie Eilish called Lovely. In an odd turn of events, one of my best friends went to high school with Khalid in LA. I first got into his music through her recommendation. I agree that his break into the industry is very inspirational!
ReplyDeleteKhalid was one of the artists that I chose for the first blog post where we had to choose our favorite musician! Khalid is an artist that is still new and very upcoming. His songs give our generation something they can relate too. Alaina it is very cool that your friend suggested Khalid before he first became really popular. Thanks for sharing the song "Lovely"!
