The Police first began performing in London in the late 1970s, soon enough they became an international hit. Some styles that are often associated with this band (besides rock) include post-punk, jazz and reggae. The band has won a total of six Grammys and in 2003, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The song that brought them to fame, "Message in a Bottle" is a household tune. Between songs, the band varies a lot, something some bands don't seem to do. The difference between "Roxanne" and "Mother" is striking. The first song has a smooth melody and reggae influence where the second is characteristic of the post-punk era. The band's original makeup consisted of Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland. They disbanded in the mid-80s having reigned as a musical power band for less than a decade. The songs below are the two aforementioned pieces, they almost sound like they could be from different bands entirely.
"Roxanne"
"Mother"
I've never listened to the Police before but the reggae element of their songs is very cool to listen to and interesting because it really isn't in any other bands of the time.
