Hi Brandon, my grandparents were from North Carolina and I spent summers as a kid in Sylva. Just was down there last week for a music camp at Warren Wilson College. Billy Joel is awesome (one of my favorite interviews back when I was a music journalist). Saw him on that great tour with Elton John years ago - they ended the night with a raucous cover of mutual influence, Jerry Lee Lewis of Sun Records!
ReplyDeleteHi Brandon! Billy Joel is great, I love his song New York State of Mind. Have you ever gotten to see him perform? That is really cool that Prof. Ellis has gotten to interview Billy Joel. Prof., if you could pick any artist whom you have interviewed to be featured on the cover of rolling stones who would you choose (or maybe they have already been featured?) and why?
ReplyDeleteHands down, my favorite interview back when I was a music journalist was with Robert Plant. Fascinating fellow and very gracious with his time - we talked 90 min. and he played me some of his favorite blues records over the phone.
