Clea Edelman - The Flamingos

A song that I discovered is ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’ by The Flamingos. Although the lyrics were simple, I enjoyed the peaceful yet romantic tune and repetition of the lyrics and instruments. I have heard short clips of this song before through different movies and remixes to current day songs. It is interesting to hear that sometimes in today’s music industry some artist use clips of old songs to add to their own modern music. Although I could not remember the song that used similar beats to this song by The Flamingos, I found another example. Throughout the song ‘Mask Off’ by Future, Future uses clips from a 1960’s song called ‘Prison Song’ by Carlton Williams. The 1950’s rockabilly tune resonates with people to this day. I am looking forward to hearing more songs by The Flamingos.

  1. Clea, I decided to give your chosen song a listen and it really surprised me because I instantly recognized it from a film or movie and had to start googling the song to find out what show it was from. I discovered it was used in at least 6 films and two TV shows Ive seen so it clearly has to be a very popular and well known song. I started playing the song on my speakers and my mom came rushing into my room asking me why I was playing her wedding song. Apparently she re- wrote the song to be about my father singing "I only have eyes for Lou" during their first dance! So in an odd way this song is a part of my family history! Thanks for showing it to me!

  2. Great choice and perhaps the most haunting track in all of doo-wop - one that has its origins in 1930s pop!
