The Cure - Mello

For this blog post, I wanted to learn more about the band, The Cure. Its one of my mom's favorite bands and I grew up listening to the songs. It is an English rock band that was formed in 1976 and it had many different band member changes, the only member still there is Robert Smith.  During the late 70s and early 80s, the band was placed as post-rock and had a gothic rock theme. From the 70s to the 90s they tried a lot of different music struggling to find their niche, signing with lots of different records, realizing it was rock of all kinds. A lot of their songs from the 80s are now in movies gaining a lot of commercial success. Today they still tour, just a few years ago I went to their concert in Boston.

Just some great songs from their years of success:

  1. What a great band. I teach "Friday I'm in Love" in my Songwriting class as an example of a perfect pop song.

  2. I was so so surprised when I was listening to your song choices. While I knew "Friday I'm In Love" just by reading the title after playing "Pictures of You" and "Just Like Heaven" I realized I knew both of those songs as well. Do you think the band struggled to find their sound in the 80's because of the frequent changes in band members?

  3. When I saw the name of this band my first thought was how familiar it sounded. As I played "Friday I'm in Love" I instantly knew the lyrics because it was a song I hadn't heard since I was a kid. The other two songs I have heard and enjoy. How much of a difference did you notice in the music when you saw them live?
