Croce: Garage Rock Edit-- Thee Midniters
Hi Everyone! Although I got to write about an interesting band of a similar name last week, I would like to introduce you to a more authentic to the genre, garage rock group called Thee Midniters. It turns out the R&B style of The Midnighters that I previously wrote about does overtake them from the garage category. Thee Midniters were incepted in 1960s Chicano. What I really liked about this group is how eclectic the instrumentals are, they incorporate guitar, saxophone, drums, keyboard, and trombone into their songs. Listening to hits like "Whittier Boulevard" you can hear the garage rock characteristics of garage rock in the way the song is carried instrumentally, feeling fun and not lyric based. Another cool thing about this group, is that the band members have evolved slightly, but as of May of this year, they were still touring in small venues to perform their hits all these decades later!
Another big hit of Thee Midniters, which surprised me because it was more lyrical is "Sad Girl." This song sounded more blues like and reminded me less of garage and more of earlier rock, so I appreciated the band's versatility.

Thanks Allison! Note: Thee Midniters were not from Chicago but are a Chicano (Mexican American) band from East Los Angeles and one of the most important such acts to bring Chicano culture to rock and roll.
